In 2021, a perfect example of the sheer potential of Paraiba Tourmaline from Africa 💎 two of the most incredible stones I’ve ever had the opportunity to see 😧

In 2001 Copper-Bearing tourmaline from Nigeria began to appear in rough buying markets around the world. But it wasn’t until 2004 that Mozambique became a beacon of opportunity for Paraiba due to the immense quantity being extracted and the ease of access to the material.

Between 2004-2009 deposits in Mozambique were almost completely depleted due to unregulated over-mining of the area.

Could there be new deposits found in the future? 🤔💎⛏️

What it’s like inside a Brazilian Paraiba Tourma

What it’s like inside a Brazilian Paraiba Tourmaline mine 💎✨

Paraiba mines in this arid area of Brazil consist of a series of tunnels all following access to underground pegmatite veins. In these veins can be found areas of Paraiba Tourmaline production where stones will be embedded in quartzite rock matrix.

The process then continues with processing pieces of this matrix that are removed and brought to the surface. Matrix is broken down into smaller pieces and further processed. Then the tourmaline is removed from matrix, thus revealing rough that can be cut into gems.
